
This September, a ten year old Japanese writer Bao Nakashima published his first book: <Seeing, Knowing, Thinking>, which a collection of his thoughts. His book has ranked the first place in Amazon Japan. It is filled with 92 reflections by this philosopher. In his preface, he writes:
This book
Is me
Kid is not a kid
Kid is not either a grown up
Kid is one who wears clean glass,
Embrace the world with curiosity
To think with the brain.
Philosopher with a small body and clear glasses.
How on earth a ten year-old boy has such a unique way of thinking? His words impressed and moved many people. What kind of family education does he have to have such a thoughtful mind?
Taiwan Parenting Magazine has telephoned interviewed his mother about her way of education at home. His mother stressed that the importance of freedom. For example, Bao Nakashima once like to pull tissue papers, sprinkle flour in the sitting room, and keeps solving mathematic questions etc, and his mother tries to not disturb his inner desire, and flow with his interest.
She also trusts her boy, and she believes that when it is needed, the kid will do his best to achieve his goal. And when the kid wants to do things he wants, she does not ask for any reason, as adults will do the same.
The mother also points out that she does not compare her kid with other kids. She encourage Bao Nakashim to speak out what he feels.
She also does not tell the kid the answer if he asks a question. She lets Bao Nakashima to look for the answer himself.
She likes Bao Nakashima to have failure, as she thinks that through failure, he learns from the mistakes. She points out that in the future, kids will not face the world of “correct answer”, but the answer with persuasive and recognition.
Bao Nakashim’s mother emphasized that parents should have thinking ability, and allow the children to have freedom. Famous actress and director Sylvia Chang Ai-chia also stresses that love does not mean to expect the children to be the way that parents want, but provide them give suggestion and encouragement.
